Interested in a great summer job or a challenging career as a professional Lifeguard? 

Through online videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you will learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional Lifeguard. 

Prerequisites:  Must be 15 years old at the end of the class

1)  Be able to swim 550 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.  Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.  Swim goggles may be used.

2)  Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.

3)  Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:

      a)  Starting in the water, swim 20 yards.  The face may be in or out of the water.  Swim goggles are NOT allowed.

      b)  Surface dive, feet first or head first, to a depth of 7-10 feet and retrieve a 10 pound object.

      c)  Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath.  Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

The above skill test will be administered as the first thing in the course.  Please be prepared.

The practical portion of the class runs over the course of three days:

Mon / Tues / Wed 9am to 6pm

Please bring lunch / snacks.  Appropriate Swimwear required:  Board Shorts, 1 piece suits, Board Shorts / Rashguards.   NO Bikini swim suits allowed.  Several towels and a change of clothes are strongly recommended.  Books can be downloaded here: Red Cross Lifeguarding Book
